E-Shop Kenya Expands to Tanzania
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania - Following its success in Kenya, E-Shop Kenya has officially launched operations in Tanzania, marking its first international expansion and bringing its e-commerce platform to Tanzanian consumers.
"This expansion represents more than just business growth—it's about connecting East African communities through technology and commerce. We're excited to bring our platform to Tanzania while respecting and celebrating its unique market characteristics."
- wycliffe shem, CEO E-Shop Kenya
Localized Platform
The Tanzanian version of E-Shop features:
- Full Swahili language support with Tanzanian dialect preferences
- Integration with local payment methods including Tigo Pesa and Airtel Money
- Prices displayed in Tanzanian Shillings with dynamic currency conversion
- Product assortment tailored to Tanzanian preferences and trends
- Local customer support team based in Dar es Salaam with extended hours
"We've spent six months studying the Tanzanian market and building relationships with local sellers and logistics providers," said expansion director Amina Hassan. "This isn't just a translation of our Kenyan platform - we've rebuilt key components specifically for Tanzanian consumers."
Job Creation
The expansion has created 50 immediate jobs in Tanzania, with plans to grow the local team to 150 within the first year. The company has also onboarded over 200 Tanzanian sellers to the marketplace.
"We're committed to being a truly Tanzanian company, not just a Kenyan import," Hassan emphasized. "All our customer-facing roles are filled by Tanzanian nationals, and we're investing in local tech talent through our Dar es Salaam engineering office."
Logistics Network
E-Shop Kenya has partnered with three local logistics providers to ensure coverage across Tanzania's major cities, with delivery times of 2-3 days in urban areas. The company has established a 10,000 square foot warehouse on the outskirts of Dar es Salaam as its main fulfillment center.
Initial product categories focus on electronics, home goods, and fashion, with plans to expand into groceries and other daily necessities in 2023.
Future Growth
The Tanzania launch represents the first phase of E-Shop Kenya's East African expansion strategy. The company has announced plans to enter Uganda in mid-2023, followed by Rwanda later that year.
"East Africa's e-commerce potential is enormous," said CEO David Kimani. "With similar consumer needs across the region but unique local requirements, our strategy balances scale with deep localization."
